Respiratory Medicine

Department Overview

Founded in September 2000, the Respiratory Medicine Department is the hospital's pioneering independent specialty in internal medicine. It comprises a general ward, RICU (Respiratory Intensive Care Unit), outpatient department, minimally invasive respiratory endoscopy intervention room, pulmonary function room, sleep monitoring room, and more. Among these, minimally invasive respiratory endoscopy intervention is a signature specialty of Luohu District.

The department's team provides patients with specialized and first-class quality services. Additionally, the specially appointed professor research team leverages the Luohu Hospital Postdoctoral Innovation Base as a primary platform to offer robust scientific research support for the discipline.

Equipment Configuration

The department is equipped with advanced devices including the Olympus 260 series electronic bronchoscope, Fujinon ultrasonic bronchoscope, flexible electronic thoracoscope, rigid bronchoscope, cryotherapy device, high-frequency electrocoagulation and electrocautery system (including argon plasma coagulation), and a comprehensive suite of minimally invasive interventional diagnostic and therapeutic equipment for respiratory diseases. Other key equipment includes a pulmonary function tester, a 56-channel polysomnography system, non-invasive ventilators, invasive ventilators, and soon-to-be-acquired technologies such as bronchoscope electromagnetic navigation systems, ultra-fine bronchoscopes, and fluorescent bronchoscopes.

Research Findings

The department primarily focuses on minimally invasive interventions for lung diseases, integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine for the prevention and treatment of chronic airway diseases and pulmonary fibrosis, as well as basic and clinical research on asthma. Over the past two years, the department has secured one national fund for overseas and scholar collaboration projects, two provincial and ministerial-level projects, five municipal and departmental-level projects, participated in one National Natural Science Foundation project, and one national "13th Five-Year Plan" key project. It has published 13 papers, including three SCI papers, and edited one monograph.

Carry Out Projects

The critical care platform for severe respiratory diseases (RICU) and the minimally invasive respiratory interventional diagnosis and treatment platform represent the main clinical technical strengths of respiratory medicine. The department's core advantages lie in the integration of lung disease prevention and treatment, as well as the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. It focuses on department-centered care, connects with community health services, and extends its reach to family care. The department's specialties include:

Integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary arterial hypertension, pulmonary fibrosis, asthma, and advanced lung cancer.

Interventional diagnosis and treatment of airway tumors and pleural diseases.

Management of severe pneumonia, immunosuppressive host pneumonia, ARDS, pulmonary encephalopathy, and aspiration pneumonia.

Comprehensive prevention and treatment of difficult respiratory diseases in the elderly.
